Dakota Creek opened nine new holes during the summer of 1998. The new holes are more open and run up and along a hill, which offers a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean and the San Juan Islands.
The course is known for its wide variety of wildlife, including salmon spawning grounds and nesting bald eagles. Prior to its expansion, the PGA once rated Dakota Creek Golf Course as having the hardest nine hole course in the State of Washington.
