Washington's Stanley Tied for 19th After First Round of US Open Print E-mail

Clemson sophomore, Kyle Stanley shot a one-over-par 72 that tied him for 19th place with, among others, Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink, Davis Love and Scott Verplank at the US Open at Torrey Pines yesterday. Starting on the 1st hole at 7.11am, Stanley fired three birdies (4th, 11th, 13th), two bogies and a double-bogey.

77 for Taylor
UW's Nick Taylor shot a six-over 77 meanwhile. Playing with former US Junior Amateur champion and second year pro Charlie Beljan (76), and former Husky Rob Rashell (81), the 20-year-old from Abbotsford, BC turned in three-over-par 38 after two bogies, a double-bogey and a birdie at the long Par 4 4th hole. Three more bogies at the 12th, 15th and 17th saw Taylor finish the day tied for 100th place, nine shots out of the lead held by Kevin Streelman and Justin Hicks.
Both players will begin their second rounds from the 10th tee; Taylor at 7.11am, Stanley at 12.41pm.
