Moore in the Hunt Again
Friday, 03 July 2009

Ryan Moore is in contention again, this time at the AT&T National at Congressional GC. After two solid weeks in which he racked up a tie for tenth at the US Open and a tie for fourth at last week's Travelers Championship in Connecticut, the 26-year-old is tied for eighth after two rounds, just five shots off the lead currently held by tournament host Tiger Woods who followed yesterday's 64 with a four-under 66.

Moore's own 66 started with a birdie at the 1st and included five more in a stretch of eight holes from 9th. He bogeyed the last unfortunately, after finding the right rough off the tee and the bunker short right of the green. Still, Moore's all-round game has been sound with an average drive of 306 yards and over 70% of fairways hit. It is his putting, however, that is perhaps showing the most improvement from earlier in the season. This week, Moore has averaged 1.583 putts per GIR against the field's average of 1.792. Moore goes out in tomorrow's third round at 1pm alongside Cameron Beckman.
Fred Couples also made the cut, adding a three-under 67 to yesterday's 72. The 49-year-old is tied for 34th on one-under-par and will play the third round with Rocco Mediate.
