The good ‘ol boy of the PGA tour, Boo Weekley successfully defended his Verizon Heritage title at Harbor Town and again donned the tartan jacket. “I got lucky” he said after the round. “If anybody behind me would have got hot, they coulda’ caught me today. “I struggled some, but I reckon everyone struggled some today.” Does tobacco spittle stain tartan?
While the golf at Harbor Town on Sunday was less than nail biting stuff, Weekley on his own was plenty entertaining. He shot even par, defended a title on the PGA tour (no easy task) won almost a million bucks, yet still took time to interact with the crowd. At one point he passed a small girl standing along the rope line on the way to his next tee shot. He shook the girls, hand and offered her an autographed golf ball. He didn’t have one handy so he walked to the tee, hit his shot and then went out of his way to go back and present the child with a memorable souvenir. The guy is a breath of fresh air in a sport that is becoming more intense and much less fan friendly than ever before. Credit Tiger for most of that. Boo chews tobacco, loves his fried chicken and southern cookin’, and can’t tell you from MOI. When asked about new technology and if he knew what MOI stood for, he just shrugged and replied, “I don’t know ‘bout any of that stuff, I just play what feels good”. Apparently that tartan jacket feels good. He now owns two of them. For anyone that cares, Aaron Baddeley and Anthony Kim, finished T-2 and Jim Furyk and Cliff Kresge rounded out the top five.
