Benzel played great in final round
Playing at this level is nothing unusual for the 29 year old who grew up in Spokane and will be playing in his second PGA Championship having qualified for last years event as well. Benzel shot rounds of 68-75-71-67 to finish in a two-way tie for 4th place and pocketed a little over $25,000 in cash.

Although 4th place isn't 1st, I'm sure this finish and his final round 67 will go a long way in boosting his confidence as he works towards the PGA Championship in August. You may remember that last year Benzel was leading the 2007 PGA Club Professionals Championship entering the final round and closed with a 3-over par 75 to finish four shots off the winning score and in a tie for 2nd.

Brian Thornton
Other washingtonian's that participated included Brian Thornton, PGA teaching professional at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent, Washington. Thornton made the cut with scores of 70-75-74-70 for a T-33 finish and coming up just two shots shy of the magic number to get an invitation to the PGA Championship in August.
