Brilliant in 2004

Well, another decade has come and gone. Unlike the 1990s, the 2000s didn’t include a professional major championship victory for a Washingtonian, but they did see one or two last hurrahs for our now senior statesman Freddie Couples who turned 50 two months ago. Then there was the rise of our state’s next great golfer, Ryan Moore.
After much debate, Moore’s win at the Wyndham Championship in August just nudged Austin Hurt’s win at the WSGA Men’s Amateur Championship into second place for performance of the year. But there can be no argument, the Tacoma native’s phenomenal play in the summer of 2004, his final year as an amateur, should rank as the performance(s) of the decade. Full story

Troy Kelly

2009 was a tough year for Troy Kelly. The Bremerton golfer, now living in Palm Springs, lost his PGA Tour card - having made only three cuts - then failed to win it back at Q School. As a result, he is now gearing up for a season on the Nationwide Tour. He's disappointed sure, but Kelly is looking ahead to a successful 2010 and the chance to win back his place in the big leagues.
