Rushton and Coston Through to US Senior Open Print E-mail

Olympia's Rob Rushton and Semiahmoo's Jeff Coston earned berths in the US Senior Open at yesterday's regional qualifying tournament held at Tacoma Country and Golf Club. Rushton led the 66-man field with a three-under par 69 on the 6,639 yard, par 72 layout while Coston had to go extra holes with Tom Blandes of Bellevue and Michael Givens of Lakewood after the trio had all finished on two-under 70. Coston's par at the second play-off hole was good enough to seee him through and Brandes outlasted Givens on the fourth hole to secure the first alternate spot.
Rushton and Coston will join 154 other players at Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs, CO, from July 31st - August 3rd. Ruston, 52, a professional who plays out of the Tacoma CGC will be making his debut at the event but it will be Coston's second appearance following his tie for 33rd at Whistling Straits last year.
