1) You were born in Bakersfield but now live in Bellingham. When and why did you and your family move? My dad got a new job so we moved to Bellingham from Bakersfield when I was in the third grade. 2) Your previous school was California State at Bakersfield. Why there and why the move to UW? CalState Bakersfield made a great scholarship offer and was the best Division II school on my list. I moved to UW because I wanted to play Division 1 golf. CSUB went up to Division 1 but because of NCAA rules, any post season play would not be allowed. I would have played the rest of my time at CSUB without ever playing in a regional or national event. 3) You played in the 2006 USA v China Friendship Cup. Tell us about that. The USA vs China Match was an amazing experience and a great opportunity to represent my country. It was played at Oak Valley Golf and Country Club in California. We had five matches and I went 3-1-1. The format was like the Ryder Cup, so each round was different and fun in its own way. It was the first year they ever held the tournament and it was awesome to win it for the USA. 4) What are you studying/majoring in? I am a General Studies major with an emphasis on business marketing and political science. 5) Why were you out for 07/08? I was out for 07/08 because I needed to concentrate on school and become a better student. I was also not having fun with golf at the time, it was too much of a job and other areas of my life were suffering because of it. 6) How did you come back so strong at the start of this year? I came back this year with a really open mind and a no-expectations attitude towards golf. I have fun and enjoy playing golf. I did not play for a whole year, I didn't hit any balls, I didn't play a single round, and I just started playing again around the middle of July. I did miss the game, but I was having fun doing other things as well as working a lot. 7) Rate the various parts of your game. I feel like I can improve in all areas of my game. My iron play is really good right now and I am hitting the driver really straight. My putting is a little inconsistent but for the most part pretty good. My chipping and sand play could use the most work. 8) Your Dad played soccer at BYU. Do you like soccer, any other sports? I really enjoy soccer. I don't support any particular team, I just enjoy watching and playing. I used to play in midfield. I also enjoy watching football; the Bears and the Seahawks mainly. And I enjoyed the Olympics, especially the trampoline and sychronized diving. 9) What are your playing goals for this year? My playing goals are to have fun and just take care of one tournament at a time. I would like to make the all Pac-10 team and be an All American. As a team we want to win the National Championship. 10) What are your long terms goals - golf/career? I am going to keep taking golf one round at a time and maybe turn pro if my game is good enough. As a career I hope to do something I love and possibly set up my own business. |
