Tacoma's Andrew Yun is currently the only Washingtonian through to the second round of the US Junior Amateur Championship at Shoal Creek having won his first round match against Connecticut's Cameron Wilson 1-up today. Because darkness halted play, however, eleven of the 32 matches are still in progress, with three more young Washington golfers still out on the course. Cameron Peck is 4-up on California's Bobby Lange through 14 holes, while Gaston De La Torre is 1-up on Kevin Penner after 14 holes in an all-Washington tie. The four made it to matchplay by surviving the 36-hole cut which fell at 152, 8-over par. Peck finished two rounds on 142, while Penner shot 147. De La Torre and Yun were both on 150. Spokane's Garret Howard and Justin Haase both failed to progress. Medalist Jorge Fernandez Valdez from Argentina won a scrappy match against Cory McElyea of California on the 19th hole.

At the US Junior Girl's Amateur, both Washington representatives; Erynne Lee and Katrina Hegge, went out in the first round.
