Third round leader Trent Whitekiller of Sallisaw, OK was ajudged the winner of thee Sahalee Players Championship Thursday when the decision was taken to cancel the final round. Because of Wednesday's suspension of play, the third round had to be completed early Thursday morning but heavy rain and lightning continued to keep the players off the course. It wasn't until 12.15pm that the clouds broke and play could finally resume.
Whitekiller, starting on the 3rd hole, his 12th, managed five pars, a birdie and a bogey to complete a one-under par round of 71 and record a 54-hole total of 210, six-under par. That was two better than Matthew Giles from Australia who made five birdies in his last nine holes for a second consecutive 71. Following a 70 on Day 1, Giles who attends USC and was a semi-finalist at last year's Pacific Northwest Amateur, was the only man in the field to beat par all three rounds.
One stroke further back was UCLA's Erik Flores whose third round 71 consisted of 17 pars and a single birdie. Top Washingtonian was Derek Berg whose total of 218, two-over par, was good enough for joint 11th place. UW's Nick Taylor finished with a 72 for a level par total of 216 that gave him a tie for eighth.
