Washingtonians Out at US Amateur Print E-mail

Both Washington golfers remaining after the first round of the 108th US Amateur at Pinehurst were defeated Thursday. Gig Harbor's Kyle Stanley, who had finished tied for fifth in strokeplay qualifying with rounds of 70 and 68 on the resort's No.2 and No. 4 courses respectively, was beaten 1up by Missouri's Connor McHenry, while Everett's Jake Koppenberg went down 6&5 to California's Rickie Fowler. UW's Nick Taylor, from British Columbia, also went out in the Round of 32, beaten 2&1 by Henderson, Nevada's Kevin Marsh.
Andrew Putnam of University Place who had also finished tied for fifth in strokeplay qualifying alongside Stanley went out in Wednesday's first round to Skip Berkmeyer of St Louis, MO. Failing to advance to matchplay were TJ Bordeaux and Joel Dahmen who both missed the cut by one shot on 146, Dan Whitaker (151), Cameron Peck (154) and Ricky McDonald (156).
