Richardson Maintains Lead at Palouse Ridge
Wednesday, 24 June 2009

Renton's Stefan Richardson shot a three-under-par 69 to follow his first round four-under 68 to take the 36-hole lead at the 83rd Washington State Men’s Amateur Championship at Washington State University’s Palouse Ridge Golf Club. Richardson, seven-under-par (137) after two rounds, is one stroke clear of Derek Berg, last year’s runner-up, who shot a five-under 67 today.
Jarred Bossio of Olympia and WSU's Kevin Tucker are both three shots behind the lead going into tomorrow's third round.
Two former Washington State Amateur Champions remain in the hunt - 1975 winner Bob Burton of Everett who is three-under-par, and Joel Dahmen of Clarkston, the 2007 champion and first round co-leader who is at two-under, 142.
The 36-hole cut fell at seven-over 151, the field of 144 cut to 63. Notable players who failed to advance were the University of Washington's Chris Killmer (152), Hoquaim's Nolan Sand (153) who followed yesterday's one-under 71 with an 82 today, Idaho's Chris Williams who shot 70 yesterday to be two off the lead but was disqualified today, and Cougars Nick Grigsby (156) and Paul Mitzel (153).
