Lee Storms into Lead With Course Record |

Richard Lee set a new course and tournament record at the 82nd WSGA Men’s State Amateur Championship Thursday, firing a bogey-free, 10-under par 62 which consisted of ten birdies and not a single five. In a wild turnaround, Lee, the first round leader after a 66 but who faltered yesterday with a 74, started today's round seven shots behind leader Jarin Todd of Woodinville, but now holds a five-shot lead heading into Friday's final round.
Despite swirling conditions, Lee was never in trouble, hitting all 18 greens in regulation. What was the difference between yesterday’s 74 and today’s 62? “I let some bad shots bother me yesterday,” he said. “It affected the rest of my round. So today, my whole mental approach was to not let things get to me.”
Lee will be joining the University of Washington’s men’s golf team in the fall as a junior, transferring from Bellevue Community College. Not surprisingly, Bill Porter, Director of Golf at Moses Pointe, was impressed. “Wow,' he said. "That’s pretty good golf.”
Nick Ellis of East Wenatchee and Derek Berg are tied for third, nine shots behind Lee. Alone in fifth is defending champion Joel Dahmen who shot a 67 to get back into the picture.
