Erynne Lee's great run at the US Women's Amateur Championship, being played at Eugene Country Club in Oregon, eventually came to an end today when she was beaten 3&2 by Amanda Blumenhurst, last year's beaten finalist and the player hotly tipped to win this year's tournament. Lee actually held the lead after three holes; a lead that she maintained until the 8th. A bogey at the 9th allowed Blumenhurst to square the match, however, and she went into the lead for the first time at the 11th when a par at the 362-yarder was good enough to win the hole. Blumenhurst then won the 15th with a par and the 16th with a birdie to close the match out. 'I thought I played pretty well,' said Lee afterwards. 'My putting was good too. I just struggled on the back nine which was okay. This was a really neat experience and I had a lot of fun.' Lee added she had learnt a lot from the three-time collegiate player of the year and that she knew what she needed to work on. 'She is a long hitter. Now I am going to work a little harder to hit it longer too. I was a little nervous playing against her side by side, but from the very 1st tee, I was confident that I was going to do well today.'
Blumenhurst will play Spain's Azahara Munoz in tomorrow's final. 20-year-old Munoz beat Belen Mozo 4&3 in the all-Spanish semi-final.
