20-year-old University of Arkansas golfer Andrew Landry shot a bogey-free four-under par 68 to lead the Sahalee Players Championship Tuesday. The Groves, TX, resident got off to a fast start with birdies at the 2nd and 3rd, then parred his way to the turn. Thanks to a similarly tidy back nine which included birdies at the straightforward Par 4 10th hole and tough Par 3 17th, Landry made it to the clubhouse with a one-stroke lead over UW's Nick Taylor whose 69 featured six birdies and three bogies.
Landry arrived in Seattle in blistering form having won the Palmetto Amateur, an amateur world ranking event, in South Carolina three weeks ago. The win added to an already impressive resume which includes collegiate All-American honors each of the last two years.
Two shots back of Landry are Erik Flores of the National Champion UCLA Bruins, and USC's Matthew Giles from Australia. Two other players broke par; last year's runner-up Eddie Olson, and Daniel Woltman who both shot one-under 71. 17 players are at even par or better. 36 holes are scheduled for tomorrow, followed by 18 on Thursday.
