Everett's Jake Koppenberg shot a bogey-free 67 yesterday to lead after the first round of the Sahalee Players Championship. Out in 34 and back in 33, Koppenberg birdied three of the four Par 5s and has a one-stroke lead over Wisconsin's Dan Woltman who won last week's Northeast Amateur Championship at Wannamoisett CC in Providence, RI, after returning from a bout of swine flu.
Four players are at three-under including UW's Nick Taylor, the R&A's #1 ranked amateur in the world, and Derek Berg, joint runner-up at the recent Washington Men's Amateur and the runner-up at the 2006 Sahalee Players.
