27-year-old Derek Berg, Washington's lone representative in the matchplay section of the US Mid-Amateur Championship being played at Milwaukee Country Club, went out in the Round of 32 Tuesday morning after a 4&3 defeat to Michigan's Jimmy Chestnut. After finishing tied for third in the 36-hole strokeplay qualifier, Berg, a former Husky, was fancied to contend for the title but came undone on the back nine in his second round match, losing four holes in a row from the 12th. Washington golfers who failed to progress to matchplay were Touraj Jason Vedadi, Dan Whitaker, Kyle Wesolowski, Kevin Burnett and Dick Curtis. |
