Kenmore resident and last year's runner-up Derek Berg began the third round of play at the 83rd WSGA Men's Amateur one shot off the lead. After managing an even par round of 72 - aided nicely by a chip-in for eagle on 17 - in the blustery conditions at Palouse Ridge Golf Club, he found himself one shot clear of the field entering the final round of play on Friday. His three round total of 210 puts him at minus 6 however nine other golfers are in the mix for a final round charge sitting at even par or better. Second round leader Stefan Richardson of Renton faltered in round 3 carding a 7-over 79 putting him at even par for the event. Walla Walla High School star, Drew Reinland of College Place, Wash., sits alone in second place at minus 5 courtesy of a third round score of 70. Surely Reinland would have taken a 2-under round had you offered it to him in the parking lot, however a double bogey on 17 closed the books on what might have been a special round indeed. After a tidy round of 73, Kevin Tucker of Kennewick and a member of the Washington State University Golf Team rounds out Friday's final pairing lurking just 3 off the lead. The feel good story of the tournament so far is Everett native Bob Burton. Burton won this event way back in 1975 and enters the final round just 5 shots off the pace.
