Ben Griffin of Victoria BC, shot an impressive 6-under par 66 Thursday to win the 2008 PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship by five strokes at Christina Lake GC in British Columbia. The 27-year-old finished three rounds on 205, 11-under-par. 2001 Champion, Alex Stamey of Mill Creek, was runner-up at six-under 210 while Colville's Kent Brown climbed into a share of third, with Todd Tibke, after a final round 67.
Griffin began the day with a one-stroke lead and after starting his final round with three birdies in the first four holes and then eagleing the Par 5 7th, pulled away into a near unassailable position. He stumbled slightly at the 9th with a double-bogey five, but eagled the Par 5 11th to put the result more or less beyond doubt.
